My Journey into the world of cakes and pastries began in 1995. After working in the baking industry as an apprentice-pastry cook for 5 years, I developed a strong interest in the hospitality industry. I enrolled in a two-year program in Hotel and Restaurant Management at Fanshawe College in London Ontario. After completion of the program, I worked in different Hotel chains as a night auditor and front desk staff. While I was in this position, I came to discover that the routine nature of my work in the hotel industry was not what I wanted. My desire for something that requires some creativity, critical, as well as analytical thinking would motivate me to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Sociology at the University of Western Ontario. Once I completed the bachelor’s degree, I worked in the non-profit sector for few years and decided to follow my true passion in baking and decorating cakes.
In 2005, “Cakes By Mavis” – A boutique style cake shop was launched and I have never looked back.
